New release: DJI Mini 3 Pro

This blog is brought to you by Drone Class, your drone trainer for flying in the open and specific category.

The new version of the DJI Mini has been launched. The DJI Mini 3 Pro has a lot of new options, which we would like to tell you a little more about. We are super excited about this device and here's why.

What are the new features on the DJI Mini 3?

The main new features on the DJI Mini 3 are:

  • Renewed camera
  • Obstacle sensors
  • Internal memory
  • Improved battery life
  • FocusTrack

Renewed camera: For content creators

When you wanted to post drone photos and videos on social media, you had to crop them vertically. As a result, you lost more than half of the image, which is a pitty. A cropped photo is always less beautiful than the original, because you can't set how the vertical image will look during the recording.

DJI has come up with a solution to this problem. The DJI Mini 3 is the first DJI drone with a vertically rotating camera. A great feature when using drone photos and videos for social media content.

Number of degrees the camera can rotate:

  • Tilt: -90 to 60
  • Roll: -90 to 0

The quality of the camera has improved. With the DJI Mini 3 Pro you can shoot 4K HDR videos up to 1080p/120fps. The photos are shot in a maximum of 48 Megapixels. The camera has a wide-angle function and can take up to 180 degrees panoramas. This gives you an overview of the entire environment. DJI has also added a hyperlapse feature to the DJI Mini 3, that many drone pilots missed with the previous DJI mini.

The photos and videos can be downloaded to your smartphone at up to 30Mbps, thanks to Mini 3 Pro supports high-speed Wi-Fi downloads. This allows you to share your images with your friends immediately after flying.

Obstacle sensors: Finally here!

The DJI Mini series is perfect for the novice drone pilot. The drone is reasonably priced - compared to the other DJI drones - and easy to carry. Until now, the DJI Mini series lacked an important function: the device had no obstacle sensors. A function that you would like to have as a beginner. This function can prevent you from flying into obstacles. The DJI Mini 3 is the first drone in the Mini series to have obstacle sensors. These are located on the bottom, front and top of the drone.

Internal memory

The DJI Mini 3 Pro has internal memory on board. If you forgot to pack an SD card or if it is full, the device switches to 1.2 GB of available storage.

Improved battery life: 34 minutes in the air

There's nothing more annoying than aborting your flight due to low battery. DJI improved flight time. The aircraft can fly in the air for up to 34 minutes. Plenty of time to get the perfect shot.

FocusTrack: Tracks you where you go

A feature that other DJI drones have is also available for the DJI Mini 3 Pro. FocusTrack ensures that the drone continues to follow an object. This can be, for example, a car, a surfer or a cyclist. With FocusTrack the subject is being tracked and you get a super smooth stabilized image without having to control the drone.

New smart controller: No hassle with your phone

It looks like a new pattern: DJI releases a new smart controller with every new model. The DJI Mini 3 Pro can be controlled by the RC smart controller. On this smart controller, your images can be stored on a microSD card. The smart controller has a battery life of 4 hours and a built-in screen. By choosing a smart controller, no smartphone needs to be connected to the controller. Customers are often paying a few hundred euros more for a smart controller. You can order the smart controller for the DJI Mini 3 for less than 200 euros.

We are receiving reports that the DJI Mini 2 smart controller is not working with the DJI Mini 3 Pro.

Conclusion: Perfect drone for traveling and novice drone pilots

DJI has added all the missing features from previous versions to the DJI Mini 3. This makes the DJI Mini 3 Pro the perfect drone for traveling and for novice drone pilots. With its small size (145 x 90 x 62 mm) when folded, the device fits in almost any backpack and with a weight of 249 grams, the drone is easy to carry.

The DJI Mini 3 Pro is slightly more expensive than its predecessors, but definitely worth considering with so many new options.
